Shopify acquires Toronto design firm Jet Cooper to improve look and feel of user-created online shops

Shopify Inc., the Ottawa-based e-commerce company that enables user to create personalized online storefronts, has acquired Toronto-based user experience and design firm Jet Cooper for an undisclosed sum.

Co-founded in 2009 by chief executive officer Satish Kanwar and creative director Verne Ho, Jet Cooper has worked on projects and campaigns for numerous brands, such as Metro News, Cineplex, TELUS and Kik.
Andrew Peek, entrepreneur-in-residence and founder of Pilot, is also a member of the executive team. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shopify, which launched in 2006, “powers over 60,000 online stores that have processed over 35 million orders generation $2-billion in online sales,” according to a release. It is used by both small businesses and upstarts, as well as larger companies such as General Electric Co., Penny Arcade and Angry Birds creator Rovio Inc.
